CAFOD Volunteers: At the heart of our organisation

Parish volunteers celebrating 30 years at CAFOD

In celebration of Volunteers’ Week (1-12 June) we’d like to take the opportunity to thank all our volunteers for their help and hard work throughout the year. To say thank you, we will be sharing stories and advice from volunteers around the Diocese.

Volunteers are an integral part of CAFOD and without them we could not continue to support our global brothers and sisters living in poverty.

As of March 2016, there are 5,815 CAFOD volunteers across England and Wales who help us throughout the year, from reading at mass and helping in the volunteer centre to working overseas as part of our Step into the Gap program.

Between them they give up over 120,000 hours of their free time, and this enables CAFOD to spend an extra £864,000 each year on fighting poverty overseas.

Maggie Mairura, CAFOD representative for Nottingham, said: “Our volunteers are vital to the running of CAFOD, we simply couldn’t do it without them. We are so grateful to each and every one of them who helps at our volunteer centres, in their parishes, local schools or in the community; their dedication and hard work is second to none.

“Despite all this fantastic help, we still need even more volunteers, in particular office volunteers, at our volunteer centre here in Nottingham.”

If you would like to volunteer with us please apply online or please ring Maggie Mairura on 01773 852950.
