In mid March various acts from the Leicester East deanery came together at Sacred Heart Church Hall in support of CAFOD.
Around 80 people were entertained by a great line-up of acts including ‘Danny, Brendan & Amanda’, ‘Holy Cross Gospel Choir’, ‘The Iliffe Acoustic’, ‘St Mary’s Folk Group’, ‘St Paul’s Girls’, and ‘Holy Cross Folk/Pop Group’. With professional performances by contributors from across the age range, the audience enjoyed a wide range of musical entertainment from gospel to folk and pop. The evening ended with an ‘Open Mike’ session where various solo performers performed their ‘party pieces’.
The evening was a great success and raised just over £570 from tickets sales, donations and a raffle. There are already calls for a repeat occasion in the not too distant future!
Brendan Johnson, Parish Volunteer at St Mary’s and St John Bosco, said:
“It’s always a pleasure to be involved with and organise such an event. The performers seem to enjoy the challenge of performing whilst raising money for a very worthwhile cause. The spectators enjoyed a night out whilst listening to some good music, having a chat, a drink and something to eat. The response and support was fantastic, a very humbling experience.”
CAFOD’s thanks go to Brendan, additional CAFOD Volunteers Anne Goodwin and Georgia White, MC Alan Wilson, Sacred Heart church community, the performers and all those who attended.
