During the season of Lent St Mary Crowned and All Saints Parishes in Glossop untie to celebrate the Feast of St Patrick and support CAFOD along the way. Good Things (the community and social arm of the Catholic churches in Glossop) and CAFOD supporters pooled their time and energy to raise awareness and fundraise, whilst having lots of fun!

On Saturday 15th March, CAFOD supporters ran a stall at the St Patrick’s Day Market in Glossop town square. CAFOD leaflets and posters raised awareness of global justice issues and CAFOD’s work in the wider community.

The following day, Good Things and CAFOD supporters organised a lively and very well attended St Patrick’s Day Celebration. Lots of Irish stew, soda bread and Guinness was enjoyed in between the dancing led by local caller, Terry Walsh. Live Irish music was supplied by the parish group of musicians and vocalists. The Prodigal Son. Over £1000 was raised for CAFOD!

On Sunday 23rd March a CAFOD breakfast was held after mass, with everyone enjoying a cuppa and a bacon butty. This event raised a further £217.

The parishes also held their usual Lent Fast Day collections, emptied CAFOD collecting boxes and sold ‘Health for Chickens’ from the World Gift range as an alternative Easter gift.

Our thanks go to Parish Contacts Moira and Maddy, to all those involved in the organisation of the events and to all those who generously supported them.
