Some of the festive goods on sale

Judging by the range of beautiful handmade goods on offer at last Saturday’s Handmade Sale, CAFOD supporters are skilled and talented as well as generous. Knitted cardigans, toys and stars; lavender bags, Christmas cards and baubles; cakes, jewellery and wooden jigsaws; self-written novels, magic reindeer food and ceramic tree decorations and much, much more filled the tables in Eastwood Parish Social centre to overflowing.

The goods had been made and donated by supporters in a variety of parishes including Beeston, Clay Cross, Hucknall, Eastwood, Allestree, and Chellaston

At a busy time of year, with many other events also happening, numbers coming to buy were on the low side, but the atmosphere was warm and friendly. Most items cost between 50p and £5 so there were bargains to be had and those attending were willing to part with their money for such good quality goods and such a good cause. So far more than magnificent £500 has been raised for the CAFOD Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Appeal.

Thank you to members and friends of the Eastwood CAFOD group for help with setting up the sale, providing refreshments, manning stalls etc; to Veronica Clayton and Elizabeth Winston for their help;  to Liz Doona and Anna Bourke for their support with preparation as well as their presence on the day, and to all those who donated and bought.

We will continue to sell the remaining items as opportunities arise in the coming weeks and months so the total will rise. Do get in touch with the CAFOD Nottingham office if your parish is interesting in hosting a CAFOD Handmade Sale in the new year.
