Helen Nutman is a parishioner at St Ralph Sherwin parish in Chellaston, Derby and her husband Joe plays in the Brookside Jazz Quartet, so when parishioners were thinking of ways to raise funds for the CAFOD Syria Crisis Appeal the idea of a jazz evening was popular suggestion.
Thanks to the hard work of CAFOD supporters in Chellaston and Alvaston Parish, Derby a great evening of listening, toe -tapping, singing and dancing took place on 30th November, with some good old trad. jazz favourites such as “I’m going sit right down and write myself a letter….” and some excellent ragtime numbers played by Joe on the keyboard. Everyone enjoyed a supper of bread, cheese and a feast of homemade cakes, with hot fruit punch, a glass of ale or a good cup of tea. And, of course, there was a raffle with lots of prizes. A special mention goes to Freda, who had crocheted and donated a beautiful colourful blanket which will keep someone toasty and warm this winter.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone who came along, or made a donation, nearly £1000 was raised for those affected by the conflict in Syria.
Well done and thank you to everyone involved.
