Fair comment!

The parish of the Holy Spirit in West Bridgford, Nottingham is a Fairtrade Parish!

The diocese of Nottingham became a Fairtrade diocese about a year ago, and since then there has been a real increase in the presence of Fairtrade within parishes.

Before Christmas, CAFOD Supporter Mary Crosby expressed her joy about gaining the Fairtrade status for her parish: “I’m excited. Holy Spirit Parish is officially a Fairtrade Parish!” This was great news for the parish CAFOD group , which has 14 members and holds regular events throughout the year.

The group has teamed up with Traidcraft to hold monthy Fairtrade stalls (second Sunday of each month in the parish social centre), selling a wide variety of fairly traded items including biscuits, tea and coffee, cooking ingredients, gifts and other treats.

The Holy Spirit group also holds other CAFOD fundraising events throughout the year, with recent cake and book sales, coffee mornings and an Advent Brunch. Our thanks to the CAFOD group and the parish for their support!

Holy Spirit Parish hosted the CAFOD Advent Service in December 2008. We were very fortunate to have  Bishop Malcolm McMahon OP come and celebrate along with Fr Gregory Tobin, Fr Chris Thomas and Fr Geoffrey Hunton. We encouraged participants to sign paper lanterns expressing messages of solidarity to the people of the Macambol in the Philippines. We hosted a raffle and raised £80 that was split between the Zimbabwe and DR Congo Emergency appeals. Thank you to all who helped or came along!
