Fundraising for CAFOD is a well-established and vital part of life for parishioners of St Pius X and St Peter’s Parish in Grimsby.

The pyramid collection boxes, gift envelopes and Lenten lunches have been the norm for many a year, but a new project under the auspices of Sr Breege Leddy CSJP is proving very lucrative…the sale of nearly-new books!

Brian Barfield and his son Ian and Ian’s partner Karen run the enterprise. The books are housed on specially constructed shelves in the church hall and there is a regular weekly turnover.

In addition they staged a successful second-hand book sale in the autumn, advertised in the local press, which itself raised over £200. The books are priced at £1 for large hardbacks and 50p for smaller ones.

The total raised by the project by the end of 2008 was just over £800!
